Fire crews are at the scene this morning of a large fire that destroyed the West Richland Golf Course club house.
The building was engulfed in flames and the roof collapsed.
An employee alerted officials at 6:16 a.m. when smoke was smelled inside the building in the bar and kitchen area. The flames spread quickly throughout the structure, said Benton County District 4 Chief Mike Spring.
He said they knew the building was empty so were able to concentrate on trying to minimize the damage but the fire spread too quickly. He called the building a total loss.
Firefighters from Richland, Hanford and Benton County fire districts 2 and 4 helped battle the blaze.
The course is owned by Michelle Marcum. She bought it from the city two years ago for $1.75 million. She had managed the course since 1989.
