The Yakima River has now receded below flood stage in Benton County. As of 6:30 a.m. Monday, the river as measured near Benton City was just above 11 feet. This is two feet below flood stage and 4.5 feet below the river’s crest (highest level) Saturday evening.
During the coming week, there will be a focus on assessing property damage in the county. Later this morning, Benton County Emergency Services will provide forms on its web site that local residents and businesses can use to report personal property damage. This information will help justify a request for federal disaster assistance programs. Reporting the damages will not guarantee that homeowners or businesses will receive any compensation for their uninsured losses. Residents should advise their insurance agents of any property damage.
Additional information and resources are available on the Benton County Emergency Services website at www.bces.wa.gov.
We’ll update this post when those forms are available. Sure hope all our fellow West Richlanders are okay.
Update: Damage Assessment Forms Available BCES is asking anyone who suffered damages in the flooding to report it as part of the county’s initial assessment. There are separate forms for homeowners/renters and businesses. The information is being collected so that Benton County can justify a request for federal assistance with recovery.
Farmers and ranchers should check the Washington Department of Agriculture web site for disaster assistance information.
